The comprehensive average price of 5500 kcal thermal coal for Bohai Rim ports is 840 yuan / ton, but it is still higher than the national maximum sales limit. The price is 40 yuan / ton higher, port inventory is approaching the 10 million tons mark, and transaction prices are facing downward pressure.

 

The Bohai Rim thermal coal price index released by the Yanhai Shipping Coal Network Index Center shows that the comprehensive average price of thermal coal of 5500 kcal in this period was 840 yuan / ton, a decrease of 7 yuan / ton from last week, a decrease of 0.83%. The data also shows that the thermal coal price of 4500 kcal calorific power in Qinhuangdao is 625 ~ 635 yuan / ton, the thermal coal price of 5000 kcal calorific power is 725 ~ 735 yuan / ton, and the thermal coal price of 5500 cal cal is 830 ~ 840 The price of thermal coal at 5800 kcal is from 890 to 900 yuan / ton. Except for the price of 5800 kcal thermal coal, which fell by 5 yuan / ton, the prices of other coal types have dropped by 10 yuan / ton, a larger decline.

 

Li Xuegang, an expert in the coal industry, believes that the sharp drop in port prices is due to multiple factors including the decline in coal prices in major resource regions, the continuous increase in coal inventories at major shipping ports around the Bohai Rim, and the continued rise in coal inventories of major power companies. Since December, coal mining prices in major resource areas such as northern Jin and Mengxi have fallen sharply. Data from Qinhuangdao Marine Coal Network show that coal inventories in Qinhuangdao, Caofeidian and other ports continued to increase. The total coal inventories of the two ports on December 7 were 9.75 million tons, which was 2.12 million tons higher than on November 1. In addition, the coal inventory of major power companies reached more than 83 million tons at the end of November, which is at a significantly higher level. The ultra-high inventory of thermal coal is putting increasing pressure on the market for thermal coal prices.

 

At the same time, the policy orientation will increase consumer companies ’expectations of falling coal prices, thereby increasing their confidence in reducing coal purchases and digesting coal inventories, further reducing the activeness of thermal coal markets in coastal areas.
