Deputy Minister of Commerce Jiang Yaoping said at the National Electrical and Mechanical and Technology Industry Business Conference yesterday that in 2012, due to factors such as shrinking external demand and rising comprehensive costs, it became more difficult for export growth of mechanical and electrical and high-tech products. Despite the complicated and severe situation, China's import and export of mechanical and electrical and high-tech products still have great potential.

 

Data show that in 2011, the export of mechanical and electrical products, the import and export of high-tech products, and the import and export of processing trade all exceeded one trillion US dollars, a record high. Among them, the export of mechanical and electrical products reached 1.08 trillion US dollars, accounting for 57% of foreign trade exports. It has maintained the status of the first category of export commodities for 17 consecutive years. In 2011, the national electromechanical technology industry business system closely focused on the central task of “stabilizing growth, adjusting structure, and promoting balance”, and made positive contributions to the steady growth and structural adjustment of China's foreign trade.

 

Jiang Yaoping emphasized that despite the complex and severe situation facing in 2012, China's import and export of mechanical and electrical and high-tech products still have great potential. China's exports of mechanical and electrical products account for only 15% of the world's share. At the same time, the scale of imports of mechanical and electrical products is expected to reach about 4 trillion US dollars during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, and the market space is huge.

 

Jiang Yaoping pointed out that mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products are important carriers for stable growth and structural adjustment of foreign trade, centering on the central task of "stabilizing growth, adjusting structure, and promoting balance." In terms of "stable growth", we must stabilize the processing trade policy, stabilize traditional markets such as Europe, the United States, and Japan, and deepen developing countries and emerging markets. In terms of “structure adjustment”, we must accelerate the cultivation of new advantages with technology, brand, quality, and service as core competitiveness, support the construction of automobile, ship export bases, and science and technology trade innovation bases. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, we actively promote 200 industries in 25 industries The cultivation and construction of export bases and 2,000 base enterprises have steadily promoted the transformation, upgrading and gradient transfer of processing trade. In terms of "promoting balance", we must implement a positive strategy for promoting the import of mechanical and electrical products, continue to urge the United States and Europe to relax export controls on high-tech products in China, promote import facilitation, and promote balanced development of imports and exports.
